What should be checked for PV module connector and cable compatibility?
Review connector type, mating approval, cable properties, routing and current-voltage limits for the exact photovoltaic module.
Short answer
A connector that appears to fit is not automatically an approved mating pair. Confirm the exact connector manufacturer and type, permitted mating combination, cable size and rating, polarity, length, routing, environmental conditions and project rules.
Connectors and cables
Identify both sides of the connection
Record module lead connector details and the matching harness or equipment connector. Similar geometry or a common trade name does not prove compatibility.
Check cable and electrical limits
Review conductor size, insulation rating, temperature and environmental classification, voltage and current limits, bend radius and permitted installation method.
Control assembly and field work
Use approved tools, assembly instructions and inspection criteria. Unapproved adapter chains, field modifications or mixed components can create technical and warranty risks.
A mating-pair approval record
Record the actual pair, not only a familiar connector-family label.
- Pair identity
- Module-side manufacturer and part number / extension-side manufacturer and part number / approved mating statement or matching instructions.
- Cable and assembly
- Conductor area, insulation and outside diameter / contact and seal / approved tool and settings / training and inspection record, all from the exact instructions.
- Unresolved compatibility
- Similar fit or a generic compatible label is not the approval record. Obtain written confirmation and keep the installation pending when evidence is missing.
