Rooftop fire review
How should PV module fire classification be used in a rooftop project?
Keep module fire-test evidence separate from the fire performance and approval of the complete roof assembly.
Short answer
A module fire classification describes evidence under a stated test method and configuration. It does not by itself approve the roof, mounting system, spacing, wiring or building. The project must review the complete assembly and destination requirements.
Rooftop fire review
Identify the exact evidence
Confirm the model, certificate or report, test method, classification wording, issue status and any installation conditions. Similar product names are not interchangeable evidence.
Review the roof as a system
Roof covering, insulation, deck, mounting, module orientation, clearances, cable routing and penetrations can affect the project assessment.
Confirm the approval path
Identify the authority, designer, insurer or project reviewer responsible for acceptance. Record open conditions before procurement and installation.
A roof–rack–module fire-evidence record
Keep module safety testing separate from any required roof-assembly classification.
- Requirement
- Destination and authority / governing rule and edition / required classification / whether the scope is the module, roofing material or assembled system.
- Matched assembly
- Exact module or permitted type / rack model / roof covering / slope / spacing / mounting geometry / listing or report and installation instructions.
- Review outcome
- Matched evidence / missing assembly evidence / applicability unresolved. UL's rooftop-system explanation is a method reference, not a Sunhorn listing or a universal destination requirement.
Record template: replace prompts with project evidence and retain unresolved items. It does not authorize purchase, installation or release.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does a module classification approve any roof?
No. The complete roof and installation must be reviewed.
Can evidence from a similar model be used?
Only when its applicability is formally documented.
When should fire review occur?
During design and before product commitment, not only at final inspection.
