How should photovoltaic modules be stored before installation?

Short answer
Storage is part of product control, not an empty period between delivery and installation. Follow model-specific packaging and handling instructions, assess the storage location, protect pallets and modules from prohibited conditions, control access and retain inspection records before release to the workface.

Confirm permitted pallet orientation, stacking, wrapping, opening, lifting and repacking methods for the exact shipment. Do not invent generic limits from module wattage or appearance.
Assess the storage environment
Review ground condition, drainage, weather exposure, temperature, humidity, dust, contamination, vehicle movement, fire controls and security. Temporary outdoor storage requires the manufacturer and project requirements to be understood.
Inspect before issue to installation
Record arrival condition, periodic checks where needed and any event such as water exposure, impact, movement or repacking. Isolate questionable units until their disposition is approved.
A storage condition and custody log
Preserve the package condition and the applicable instructions until installation.
