Mechanical design

How should module mechanical-load claims and mounting zones be reviewed?

Connect declared photovoltaic module load evidence to the actual support layout, clamps, rails and site design.

Short answer

A published load value applies only with the stated test basis and mounting configuration. It is not a universal allowable roof load or a substitute for structural design; clamp zones, support count, orientation, hardware and site actions must match approved evidence.

Mechanical design

Read the test configuration

Record whether the declared value refers to front or rear loading, the support arrangement, clamp location and test method. Do not copy the number without its configuration.

Match the mounting interface

Confirm rail direction, support span, clamp length and position, frame engagement, fasteners and installation torque against current instructions.

Keep structural responsibilities clear

Project wind, snow and other actions, safety factors, roof capacity and attachment design require qualified engineering. Module evidence is one input to that work.

A test-configuration-to-site matrix

A load number is incomplete without the configuration that produced it.

Test evidenceModel and drawing revision / test or design-load label / front or rear direction / support count / clamp zone and length / source report.
Site proposalOrientation / rail layout / span / clamp position and hardware / fastening instruction / wind and snow cases / roof and attachment calculation.
Mismatch recordIdentify every changed interface and obtain documented approval for the exact configuration. Do not derive a clamp zone, torque or permissible load from a generic datasheet icon.

Record template: replace prompts with project evidence and retain unresolved items. It does not authorize purchase, installation or release.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is a test load the same as allowable roof load?

No. They describe different scopes and calculation responsibilities.

Can clamps be moved outside the stated zone?

Only with documented approval for the exact configuration.

Does module certification approve the roof structure?

No. Roof and attachment design remain project-specific.
