Product identity

What should be checked on a photovoltaic module nameplate and serial label?

Use photovoltaic module labels to verify identity and traceability without replacing the controlling product documents.

Short answer

The nameplate and serial label connect a physical module to its declared identity. Check manufacturer or responsible entity, model, electrical ratings, safety markings, serial number, production information where provided and consistency with the order, datasheet and traceability file.

Product identity

Match the label to the approved product

Compare brand, legal manufacturer or responsible entity, model code, power class and electrical fields with the purchase order and approved submittal. Similar family names are not enough for identity.

Check legibility and permanence

Labels should be readable at the agreed inspection stage and located as required by the applicable product documentation. Record missing, damaged, duplicated or inconsistent serial information before installation.

Keep labels within the evidence chain

A label does not replace the datasheet, certificate or warranty terms. Link serial data to pallet, delivery record and installation location where required, and control any corrected or replacement label.

A label-to-order identity check

Use one serial-linked row per inspected unit or the agreed batch record.

Expected identity
Order model and bin / approved label drawing / manufacturer or responsible legal entity / declared electrical ratings and certification markings.
Observed identity
Photograph file / serial exactly as printed / readable model and rating / matching packing and flash record / duplicate or missing serial flag.
Mismatch
Retain the original photograph and issuer clarification; do not reconstruct an illegible label or treat a logo alone as valid model coverage.

Record template: replace prompts with project evidence and retain unresolved items. It does not authorize purchase, installation or release.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can the label replace the datasheet?

No. It identifies the unit and selected ratings; the complete issued documents control technical interpretation.

What if two units show the same serial number?

Treat it as a traceability exception, preserve evidence and follow the approved correction process.

Should labels be photographed?

When the inspection or project requires it, photographs can support traceability if linked to the correct unit and record.
